D-Link Amplifi DAP-1525 Wi-Fi Booster

D-Link's Amplifi DAP-1525 is probably the most unique-looking wireless extender you'lll ever see. The design resembles that of a thermos or an electric coffee grinder. There?s a lot of functionality and features within this device, but with absolutely confusing setup instructions, some quirks in the interface, and inability to sustain throughput beyond 75 feet, the D-Link DAP-1525 falls short.

Specs and Design

The DAP-1525 is a cylindrical device that stands upright and will take up some room as an extender, so careful consideration has to be taken when placing. The front panel has four LEDs: Bridge, AP, WPS (yes, Wireless Protected Setup is supported), and Wired.

The device not only serves as a wireless extender but can actually function as a 2.4 or 5 GHz access point. The back panel features a toggle switch that is used to set the extender in AP or Bridge mode. The back also has four Gigabit Ethernet ports for connected wired devices.

Setup

The biggest problem I had with the DAP-1525 was with the setup instructions and process. The device ships with a "Quick Install Guide" as well as a CD that surprisingly does not have any sort of setup wizard but instead also has an installation guide. The two guides seem to be for two different products. The Quick Install Guide focuses on setting up a new WLAN with the extender set in AP mode and tells nothing about setting it up as a bridge.

I can imagine consumers opening this device, going right to the Quick Install Guide and wreaking havoc on their home networks by following directions that won?t set the DAP-1525 up as an extender but will have them create a new WLAN. Even worse, the directions in the guide and on the CD make no mention of how users can set the device which has a static IP address by default to connect to their home networks. Unless one is comfortable with networking, the instructions D-Link provides are convoluted and, quite frankly, irresponsible.

The Quick Install instructions do tell users how to connect the device through push-button WPS but those instructions are useless if a router does not support WPS or WPS does not work for some reason, which is why it?s crucial that the manual setup instructions be made clearer.

Actually, the device's set up would not be all that hard, if setup were documented properly. I set up the DAP-1525 by connecting the DAP-1525 via Ethernet to my laptop (a step the printed instructions do give). Next, I set the networking setting of my laptop?s LAN adapter to match the setting on the extender (which the directions on the CD detail how to do). I set the device to Bridge mode with the toggle switch and then was able to get into the device's interface through a browser.

From within the interface I selected ?Manual? for configuration option. With the router in Bridge mode, this brings up a Site Survey button. Clicking it pulls up a list of all nearby wireless network. You can select the network you want to add the extender to by clicking a radio button. An issue I ran into in this screen was that the page refreshed so quickly that the radio button would get deselected if I didn?t click it and then hit the ?Next? button fast enough?rather irritating.

Once I selected the wireless network for the extender to join, I then had to change the extender?s network information to match my network settings. I don?t see this important step addressed anywhere in the setup instructions.

I also found it odd that the time by default was set to January 2000. When I tried to sync the device?s time to my laptop's clock by clicking the corresponding button in the interface I received the error, ?Unable to parse HTTP request??but it did finally sync the time after another click.

Performance

If the setup process wasn't bad enough, the performance of the DAP-1525 left much to be desired as well. Here are the results and comparisons with other extenders:

You can see from the chart, D-Link's device starts out strong but by the time I get to 75 feet, throughput starts to peter out. By 100 feet, I couldn't connect to the wireless network. I couldn't even see the SSID listed.

Maybe, in Some Circumstances

If you are looking to extend a wireless signal in a relatively small area?no more than 60 feet away from the router and you want a bridge/repeater that can also act as an AP then this may be the device for you. It's hard for me to imagine that you wouldn't be better off just buying a dual-band router in this case, however. That issue aside, the performance is a deal-breaker, and setup is likely to frustrate average home users. The D-Link Amplifi DAP-1525 ?does extend the signal up to about 75 feet in our testing, and for that gets two and-a-half stars. The Editor's Choice for Wi-Fi booster, so far, is Cisco Linksys' Wireless-N Range/Extender Bridge (RE1000)

Strategies from Ecology and Evolution for Business ? Eco Matters ...

Business strategy and the scientific disciplines of ecology and evolution share a similar vocabulary: competition, resources, game theory, and ecosystems. Companies and business theorists alike increasingly appreciate how natural systems provide powerful models for design, operations, and strategy.

Nook Tablet gets easy root shortcut via SD card (video)
As the (admittedly niche) battle for root access wages on between the Nook Tablet creators and its end users, a new shortcut's been discovered for unlocking the Android-based slab -- and you'll need an SD card to do the business. The new technique, courtesy of xda-developers forum member Indirect, works on all tablets up to version 1.4.1, requiring the installation of some key files onto the card and a reboot to unleash the might of Google's Android Market. Those interested in a Google app hook-up for their Nook should check the video below and visit the source for those all-important files.

BC-FIG--US Championships,982On to Sochi: Americans need solid finish at worldsAP Photo SJA222, SJA118, SJA221, SJA123, SJA123, SJA121Eds: With AP Photos.By NANCY ARMOURAP National Writer

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) ? Ashley Wagner knows all too well the importance of U.S. results at the next two world championships.

Wagner finished third at the 2010 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, a spot that would have been good enough to get her to the Olympics almost any other year. But a series of poor U.S. performances at worlds meant the Americans could send only two women to Vancouver, and Wagner was the odd one out.

"That was one of the hardest and lowest points in my career, for sure," she said.

One she doesn't want to repeat. Or see anyone else experience.

Slots for the Sochi Olympics won't be awarded until the 2013 world championships, but the Americans are already running behind. It will take a combined placement of 13 or better (fifth and eighth, for example) by the top two Americans at the 2013 worlds to secure the three Olympic spots that were once considered a birthright of U.S. skaters. Unlike years past, however, the Americans can no longer count on being able to "drop" one of their scores.

For the fourth year in a row, the U.S. women will have only two spots at this year's worlds. The men are down to two, as well, having lost their third spot last year. If the Americans don't hit that magic 13 at this year's worlds, they'll have only two spots again next year ? and no margin for error for Sochi.

"It would be nice for all the ladies competing to not have to worry about the top two, but to be able to worry about the top three," Wagner said after winning her first U.S. title Saturday night. "It's time the U.S. makes a claim in women's figure skating, and I think we have the talent here, we have the skaters."

Wagner has already shown she can back up her big talk, jumping from third to first Saturday with a mesmerizing version of "Black Swan." She managed to convey both the elegance and the fierceness of her character, so much so it's a wonder feathers didn't pop out of her back. Her technical elements were woven right in with her artistic elements, rather than standing alone as individual tricks.

While she wasn't perfect ? she popped a triple salchow and touched her free foot down on a triple flip ? it was a performance that would stand up well against the world's other top women.

"If you work hard, it'll pay off," Wagner said. "The fact that I trusted myself and I believed that I could go out and put out that program and actually go do it, that speaks enough for itself."

Alissa Czisny didn't look like a world-beater in finishing second. But she's come a long way from the fragile skater whose meltdown at the 2009 worlds was so complete, it cost the U.S. that third spot in Vancouver.

Always a beautiful skater, she's finally developed the confidence required to be among the world's best. She won the Grand Prix final last year, and qualified again this year after winning Skate America and finishing third at Trophee Bompard. She was fifth at last year's world championships.

The Americans will also get a break because neither Miki Ando nor Kim Yu-na, last year's winner and runner-up, will be at worlds, March 26 to April 1 in Nice, France. Russia can't send its top two women, either, with Adelina Sotnikova and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva both too young to go.

"We just need to be able to go out there and put out consistent programs ... and show the world that ladies figure skating in the United States is not over," Wagner said.

The U.S. hurt itself by sending a woefully inexperienced men's team to last year's worlds. That won't be the case this year. Not only are Jeremy Abbott and two-time junior world champion Adam Rippon capable of reclaiming that third spot, a place on the podium is not out of the question if Abbott he skates as he did Sunday.

Needing only to stay on his feet to claim his third title, Abbott put on a sublime display of quiet elegance and superior skill that was simply bewitching. His final score of 273.58 was the highest ever at the U.S. championships, and puts him within striking distance of world champion Patrick Chan. It was about 12 points better than 2006 Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko scored in winning his seventh European title Saturday.

Abbott is one of the most technically sound skaters in the world, with beautiful edges that carve the ice like a master craftsman and perfect body control. He's also one of the few skaters who has managed to maintain the balance between the performance quality that makes figure skating so entertaining and the tough physical tricks the system now demands. But he's never commanded the international respect Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir did, flopping at the 2009 world championships and again at the Vancouver Olympics.

But Abbott has turned things around, thanks to an attitude adjustment following his dismal performance at last year's nationals.

"I do feel very much more comfortable in my own skin," he said. "I was pretty confident that I was going to do what I did (here)."

Abbott landed the only quadruple jump of the day, and his spins were so tight and perfectly centered that coaches will no doubt be asking for a DVD of them. It was his presence, however, that was truly spectacular, a joy and quiet elegance that comes when a skater lets the music wash over him and tell his body what to do.

"I'm not going to worry about getting that spot back. I'm going to focus on my goals and what I need to accomplish," Abbott said. "But if Adam and I skate the way that we can, we should have three spots next year."

Researchers Spot Potential Bile Duct Cancer Drug Targets (HealthDay)

THURSDAY, Jan. 26 (HealthDay News) -- Researchers who identified a new genetic signature associated with bile duct cancer say their discovery could lead to targeted treatment for the deadly cancer.

The team at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center screened samples from 287 patients with gastrointestinal tumors and found that growth-enhancing mutations in two genes (IDH1 and IDH2) may account for nearly one-fourth of bile duct tumors that develop in the liver.

Mutations in IDH1 were found in 13 percent of all bile duct tumors and in 23 percent of those within the liver itself. Mutations in IDH2 were less common.

It may be possible to develop drugs that target this mutation in order to control tumor growth, they said.

The findings were published online in The Oncologist.

Bile duct cancer occurs in a duct that carries bile from the liver to the small intestine.

"Patients with bile duct cancer have a generally poor prognosis. Most of them are diagnosed with advanced or metastatic disease, so surgical resection [removal] is not feasible," study co-senior author Dr. Andrew Zhu, director of Liver Cancer Research at the MGH Cancer Center, said in a hospital news release.

"Identifying this new and relatively common mutation in intrahepatic [within the liver] bile duct cancer may have significant implications for the diagnosis, prognosis and therapy of patients whose tumors harbor this mutation," Zhu added.

Currently, there are no drugs that target IDH mutations, but extensive efforts are underway to develop such drugs, the researchers say.

Each year in the United States, 12,000 people are diagnosed with cancers of the gallbladder and bile duct, but only 10 percent of those cancers are discovered early enough for successful surgical treatment. Average survival, even with chemotherapy, is less than a year.

AP source: Kelly's accuser says she had abortion (AP)

NEW YORK ? The son of New York City's police commissioner has been accused of sexually assaulting a woman who told authorities she got pregnant from the encounter and had an abortion, people familiar with the investigation said Thursday.

Greg Kelly, 43, was absent Thursday morning from his job as anchor of the popular local morning show "Good Day New York" and through a lawyer denied the allegations.

The woman told authorities she met Kelly for drinks on Oct. 8, then went back to her law office in lower Manhattan, where she was assaulted, one person familiar with the case told The Associated Press. She told authorities she was not capable of consenting to sex, the person said.

She said she became pregnant and had an abortion, according to a law enforcement official. Neither the person nor the law enforcement official were authorized to speak publicly and talked to the AP on condition of anonymity.

Police spoke to the woman but quickly turned the case over to the Manhattan district attorney's office because of the potential conflict of interest in investigating the son of Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly.

Kelly, a former Fox News correspondent, is cooperating with the investigation, his lawyer, Andrew Lankler, said in an emailed statement.

Greg Kelly "strenuously denies any wrongdoing of any kind," Lankler said. "We know that the district attorney's investigation will prove Mr. Kelly's innocence." The lawyer didn't respond to questions about the focus of the investigation.

Lew Leone, the general manager of the local Fox station, said, "Greg Kelly has requested some time off." He did not elaborate.

At some point, the woman's boyfriend learned the story and became enraged, the person said.

The woman's boyfriend confronted the elder Kelly at a recent public event, police spokesman Paul Browne said.

"He said, `Your son ruined my girlfriend's life,'" Browne said. "The commissioner said, `Well, what do you mean?' He said he didn't want to talk about it here, so the commissioner told him to send a letter."

Browne said that, to his knowledge, no letter was sent. He said he could not comment on the investigation because of the potential conflict of interest.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg Thursday that he "thought the police department did exactly what they should do" by turning the matter over to the district attorney.

"Keep in mind: Everyone has a right to have their complaints investigated," the mayor said, noting that Greg Kelly hasn't been charged with any crime.

It wasn't immediately clear how much time elapsed between the man's remarks to the commissioner and the woman's decision to go to a police station Tuesday, nor why she had waited for nearly three months after the alleged attack to make a report.

It's also unclear how long the woman and Kelly knew each other before the alleged encounter at her office. But they apparently were in touch afterward, according to the person familiar with the investigation.

The identity of the woman has not been released, and the AP does not name people who report being sexually assaulted unless they agree to be identified or come forward publicly.

Kelly joined Fox News in 2002. He covered the Iraq War, including four assignments in Baghdad, and was the White House correspondent from 2005-2007, according to his biography on WNYW's website.

In 2007, the television show "Extra" identified him as the most eligible anchorman on TV. The show's website said Kelly "has enough heart and courage to make any woman swoon."

He's been involved in an ongoing feud with Joel McHale, host of "The Soup" on E! Entertainment. The show plays clips from television shows to poke fun at people, and McHale has frequently targeted Kelly and "Good Day New York."

One clip noted his sullen response to partner Rosanna Scotto the morning after a loss by the NFL's New York Jets, another showed Kelly playing disco music on his laptop coming off a commercial.

Kelly struck back last Halloween by showing up on "Good Day New York" in a McHale costume and making fun of "The Soup."

Earlier in his career, Kelly covered politics for local cable news channel New York 1 and was an anchor and reporter for NewsChannel 34, an ABC and NBC affiliate in Binghamton, N.Y., his biography said.

He also served for nearly a decade in the Marine Corps and is now a lieutenant colonel in its reserves.

Raymond Kelly has been police commissioner since 2002. He also served as commissioner in the 1990s.

Ray Kelly Resignation Called For By Muslims Angered By Anti-Islam Movie

NEW YORK -- Muslim groups are calling for New York's police commissioner to step down because of his appearance in a film they say puts their religion and its adherents in a bad light.

About 20 activists held a news conference on the steps of City Hall on Thursday and criticized Ray Kelly for giving an interview to the producers of the movie "The Third Jihad."

The movie uses dramatic footage to warn against the dangers of radical Islam and shariah, or Islamic law. Muslim groups say it encourages Americans to be suspicious of all Muslims.

"Terrorism is an evil that must be eliminated, but one cannot fight wrong with wrong," said Talib Abdur-Rashid, a Muslim cleric.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Thursday he stood by Kelly and the commissioner's spokesman, Paul Browne. Activists had also demanded Browne's resignation.

However, the mayor said Kelly would have to redouble his outreach efforts to Muslims.

"Anything like this doesn't help credibility, so Ray's got to work at establishing, re-establishing or reinforcing the credibility that he does have," Bloomberg said.

Kelly appears for about 30 seconds of the 72-minute movie, which was made by the conservative Clarion Fund. He originally said he was not involved but on Wednesday acknowledged he had given a 90-minute interview to the filmmakers in 2007.

Browne he had initially forgotten details of Kelly's involvement in the film until asked about it again this week.

"This goes back five years," he said. "There's some suggestion that, `Gee, I suddenly remembered.' I didn't suddenly remember ? I went through five years of emails to try and figure out did I get request by this guy who's connected with the foundation."

The movie was later shown to police trainees. The police department said it was played in a continuous loop in the sign-in area of counterterrorism training sessions between October and December 2010. As many as 1,489 trainees may have seen the movie, according to documents released under New York's public records law.

Kelly apologized Wednesday for his appearance and for the playing of the movie.

The Clarion Fund and its supporters say "The Third Jihad" is balanced.

"I don't see why they're so upset by people seeing it," said Stuart Kaufman of The United West, a group that opposes shariah. "Shariah law is a danger to western civilization and it's up to police to understand the nature of Shariah law so they can prevent this."

The Muslim leaders said they are worried that the police department is teaching officers to treat all Muslims as suspects. They demanded the resignation of Kelly and Browne, and a U.S. Department of Justice inquiry into the showing of the film.

The activists also want retraining of all 1,489 officers "that are walking this city with poison in their brains," said Cyrus McGoldrick, civil rights director for the Council on American-Islamic Relations-New York. CAIR is one of the organizations that "The Third Jihad" accuses of being soft on terrorist groups.

Bloomberg said he doubted the movie had swayed any of the trainees and said he saw no need for retraining.

"I think any retraining is probably being done by the press right now," Bloomberg said.

Kelly has said the department does surveillance only when it is following leads. But an investigation by The Associated Press has revealed a secret intelligence program, set up with the aid of the Central Intelligence Agency, aimed at infiltrating religious groups and monitoring neighborhoods even when there is no evidence of wrongdoing.

The CIA has since decided to pull its officer from the NYPD after an internal investigation criticized poor oversight of the collaboration.

The widely used farm practice of grafting watermelon and other melon plants onto squash or pumpkin rootstocks results in larger amounts of certain pesticides in the melon fruit, scientists are reporting in a new study. Although only low amounts of pesticides appeared in the fruit in the study, the scientists advise that commercial farmers use "caution" when grafting watermelon plants to squash in a report that appears in ACS' Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry.

Mehmet Isleyen and colleagues explain that farmers graft watermelon and other fruits onto the roots of gourd plants because it makes the fruit more resistant to diseases. In Turkey, where the group did the study, more than 95 percent of watermelons grow from grafted seedlings. Although the gourds are hardier, previous research has shown they accumulate pesticides called organochlorines. Organochlorines have been widely banned because of concerns about their effects on human health and wildlife. Despite the fact that their remnants can linger in the soil for decades, some organochlorines remain in use. While traditional watermelon plants do not take up these compounds, the researchers wanted to resolve uncertainty about watermelon grown on the roots of plants in the squash family.

The group grew common Turkish watermelon-squash graft seedlings in soil taken from a farming region there. They tested the roots, stems, leaves and fruit of the plants and found that organochlorine levels were as much as 140 times higher in the stems of squash-grafted watermelons than in intact watermelons. However, while still urging caution, the group notes that these levels are 6-12 times lower than accepted limits of the pesticides in produce in the U.S. and Turkey.

SAP bullish on 2012 after record results (Reuters)

FRANKFURT (Reuters) ? SAP, the world's biggest maker of business software, was upbeat on its topline growth this year citing its investment in new technologies and robust corporate spending.

Investors have worried that they may have overestimated the resilience of corporate tech spending in a deteriorating global economy, especially after SAP's big rival Oracle Corp reported weak quarterly results last month.

But there have been increasing signs that the outlook may not be as dim as some feared. IBM Corp, the world's largest technology services company, brimmed with confidence for 2012 as it posted strong results last week.

"We have significant momentum going into 2012," SAP said on Wednesday as it published its full financial results for 2011.

The German company expects operating profit will rise to 5.05-5.25 billion euros ($6.6-$6.8 billion) at constant currencies from a 40-year record level of 4.71 billion in 2011.

SAP shares were down 0.2 percent at 44.32 euros by 1223 GMT, while the German blue-chip index was 0.7 percent lower.

SAP had already reported a better-than-expected rise in fourth-quarter sales and profit on January 13.

It attributed the strong performance to demand for its biggest software products and growing demand for its HANA offering, which allows companies to analyze business data quickly, and said it had won market share overall.

"In the current environment, where growth is tough to come by, this is clearly an encouraging message," Citigroup analyst Charles Brennan said.

CHASING THE CLOUD

SAP said it expects its 2012 revenue from software and software-related services to rise by 10-12 percent in the full year from 11.35 billion euros in 2011.

As much as 2 percentage points of that increase will be contributed by SuccessFactors, which SAP last month agreed to buy for $3.4 billion to keep up with rivals in the race for cloud-computing business.

The U.S. acquisition will dampen earnings in 2012, reducing operating margin growth to about 0.10 percentage points, compared with 1.1 percentage points improvement recorded in 2011, co-Chief Executive Bill McDermott said.

Even excluding the impact of the acquisition, margin growth will slow to 0.7 percentage points.

"We think that SAP will continue to outperform into 2012," JP Morgan analysts said, citing fourth-quarter strength across regions and business divisions, resilient pricing and growing market share amid challenging conditions.

SAP, based in Walldorf near Heidelberg, built its business on large, integrated software systems sold to many of the world's biggest companies, such as Apple, GE, McDonald's and Pepsi.

Now it is also betting on its mobile and so-called in-memory databank technology, designed to make analytical software more powerful by accessing data stored locally on a chip instead of on a server, allowing it to cater to a wider variety of clients.

And it sees revenue from the cloud business at 2 billion euros by 2015.

"We are well positioned to exceed our 20 billion euros revenue target and reach a 35 percent operating margin in 2015," Chief Financial Officer Werner Brandt said.

SAP has about 183,000 customers and bills itself as the world's leading provider of software for managing supply chains and customer relations.

SAP, whose stock has gained about 10 percent over the past year, trades at about 14.5 times 12-month forward earnings, at a premium to Oracle's multiple of 11.4 and IBM at 12.7, according to ThomsonReuters StarMine data.

Gingrich says DREAM Act with military aspect OK

(AP) ? Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich says he would allow illegal immigrants to earn U.S. citizenship if they serve America in uniform.

Gingrich said during Monday's GOP debate that if president he would veto a version of the proposed DREAM Act that would allow a path to citizenship for children who come to the United States with their undocumented parents if they complete college.

Gingrich says college graduation alone is not enough.

Gingrich says citizens of other countries already have the opportunity to earn U.S. citizenship by wearing a uniform. He says that children of undocumented immigrants too should have that option.

Rivals Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum say they would veto any version of the DREAM Act that gives citizenship for college graduates.

Newt Gingrich wins South Carolina. Can he do the same in Florida?

Mitt Romney, recently seen as the GOP establishment candidate with an aura of ?electability? about him, had to settle for second place. Now it's on to Florida and two important debates.

In a remarkable turn-around from his lackluster performance in the first two presidential nominating contests, Newt Gingrich won a very clear victory in South Carolina Saturday evening.

Mitt Romney, until very recently seen as the Republican establishment candidate with an aura of ?electability? (if not ?inevitably?) about him, had to settle for second place. In the end, it was the best he could expect after a week in which he stumbled in debates and slid rapidly downward in the polls.

The results so far this primary season ? Rick Santorum winning Iowa, Mitt Romney taking New Hampshire, and Newt Gingrich surging to win South Carolina ? indicate what could be a wide-open race, at least for the next few contests. It?s the first time in modern GOP primary history that three different candidates won those three states.

RECOMMENDED: Newt Gingrich: 8 of the GOP idea man's more unusual ideas

"We are now three contests into a long primary season," Romney said in what was essentially a concession speech in which he congratulated Gingrich for the former House speaker?s first-place victory Saturday, adding in understatement: "This race is getting to be even more interesting."

With 95 percent of all precincts tallied, Gingrich was projected to finish with 40 percent, Romney 27 percent, Santorum 17 percent, and Ron Paul 13 percent.

The next primary will be held in Florida just 10 days from now (Jan. 31). Before that, there?ll be two GOP debates in the Sunshine State (next Monday and Thursday). Given the results in South Carolina, those closely-watched and analyzed events could be crucial to Romney?s political future.

Speaking to supporters less than an hour after the polls closed, Romney gave his standard stump speech ? references to ?a battle for the soul of America? and ?a shining city on a hill? ? mainly aimed at Barack Obama.

But he also took a few jabs at Gingrich, calling his opponent?s criticisms of Romney?s record in running an investment firm ?an assault on free enterprise? and insisting that ?our candidate can?t be someone who never ran a business and never ran a state.?

For his part, Gingrich spoke (longer than any of the others) like the front-runner he now is.

He said (brief) nice things about each of his three Republican rivals, then pivoted to a sharp critique of ?the elites of New York and Washington,? especially President Obama.

Romney and Gingrich refuse to move dueling events (AP)

GREENVILLE, S.C. ? Rival presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich are set to appear at the same barbecue restaurant at the same time on the day of the South Carolina primary.

Both campaigns say they will not change schedules announced Friday that have the dueling candidates visiting Tommy's Country Ham House in Greenville at 10:45 a.m. EST.

Romney's campaign calls the scheduling a "coincidence" and says it won't change its plans.

Gingrich campaign spokesman Nathan Naidu says Gingrich's schedule came out first and that Gingrich is, in his words, "happy to have Gov. Romney join us at our event."

Adult in Ohio Craigslist case charged with murder (AP)

AKRON, Ohio ? A self-styled chaplain suspected in a deadly scheme to rob people who replied to a Craigslist job ad has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated murder, kidnapping and robbery and could face the death penalty if convicted, according to an indictment announced Friday.

The charges against Richard Beasley accuse him of killing three men and wounding a fourth in August, October and November.

Beasley, 52, of Akron, who has been jailed in Akron on unrelated prostitution and drug charges, has denied involvement in the Craigslist slayings. He was arrested in November after authorities linked him to the alleged plot.

Prosecutors would not speculate on a motive but Attorney General Mike DeWine, who joined in announcing the charges, said investigators are looking at "serial killings."

"Are there more bodies? We frankly do not know," DeWine said, appealing to people with any information about missing persons to come forward.

Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said the case, with the nature of the crimes and the multitude of charges, was made for the death penalty.

"This case we view as to be one of the worst of the worst when it comes to horrible murder cases," Walsh said.

The 28-count indictment against Beasley also included theft, weapons and identity theft charges. A message was left with the attorney who has been representing Beasley on the non-Craigslist charges.

An acquaintance of Beasley, 16-year-old Brogan Rafferty, of nearby of Stow, could face similar charges after being transferred to adult court late last year. His case is pending in Noble County where two of the slayings happened.

Authorities say the scheme targeted older and single out-of-work men with backgrounds that made it unlikely their disappearances would be noted right away.

The first victim, Ralph Geiger, 55, of Akron, was killed Aug. 9, the day after he left a homeless shelter saying he was taking a farm job. His body wasn't found until Nov. 25.

Geiger's brother, Mark Geiger, said Friday he's happy with the way prosecutors are handling the case. He said he's long wondered about other victims. He said he's not a death penalty advocate but wouldn't oppose it, although life in prison for Beasley would also satisfy him.

"As long as Beasley never has the opportunity to interact with the outside world again, that's what I feel would be appropriate," said Geiger, a telecommunications executive in Atlanta.

The plot's second victim, David Pauley, 51, of Norfolk, Va., came to Ohio in mid-October after answering the Craigslist ad. A friend has said Pauley was desperate for work and eager to return to Ohio.

Police say he was killed Oct. 23, and his body was found Nov. 15. Family members had contacted police concerned they hadn't heard from him.

The third victim, Timothy Kern, 47, of Massillon, whose body was buried near an Akron shopping mall, answered the ad and was last seen Nov. 13, authorities said. His body was also found Nov. 25. Kern told his family he was taking the job to help support his three sons.

A surviving victim, Scott Davis, 48, of South Carolina, also answered the ad and was shot Nov. 6 before escaping, police say.

Beasley was a Texas parolee when he returned to Ohio in 2004 after serving several years in prison on a burglary conviction. He was released from an Akron jail July 12 after a judge mistakenly allowed him to post bond on a drug-trafficking charge.

He was arrested two days later following a traffic stop but again mistakenly released. An investigation by Ohio's prisons system found that Beasley should not have been released on bond but said confusion over interstate prisoner-transfer rules and "ambiguity" in messages from Texas to Akron jail officials contributed to the error.

In a four-page handwritten letter to the Akron Beacon Journal, Beasley has said he has been miscast as a con man when he really helped feed, house and counsel scores of needy families, alcoholics, drug addicts, the mentally ill and crime suspects for years.

"To call me a con man when I sacrificed for others is wrong," wrote Beasley, who didn't mention the Craigslist investigation or Rafferty. "To turn their back on me is not following Christ's example. I gave three full years of my life to that ministry and what I got out of it was the satisfaction of doing the right thing. There was no `con' to it."

Demand strong, margins better in 2012: Nike CEO (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Reuters) ? Nike Inc (NKE.N) is seeing no slowdown in demand in its biggest markets, even as Europe struggles economically and shoppers in the United States remain skittish, Chief Executive Mark Parker said.

The world's largest sportwear maker saw sales rise 18 percent in the second quarter, and Parker said there has been no pushback from shoppers as it raised prices for spring products.

"During times of economic challenge, consumers will go to brands that they trust and can connect with. We have not seen the economy have a dramatic impact on the sales of our products, not just in the high end, but also in the mid-priced range," Parker said.

Speaking at the launch of the company's new FuelBand, Parker said he expects input costs to keep going up, and is planning to fight those partially with price increases to improve margins.

Gross margins, which were down 260 basis points during the second quarter, are expected to improve through fiscal 2012, the CEO said.

"We definitely see room for margin improvement. With the price increases and with some commodity costs coming down, margins will start climbing up by the end of this fiscal year. You'll start seeing incremental margin improvement in fiscal 2012 and as we head into 2013," said Parker, who has been working with Nike since 1979.

Nike is also betting heavily on its Chinese market, which is currently about 11 percent of total sales, and grew 35 percent during the quarter ended Nov 30.

"I frankly think we have only scratched the surface when it comes to China," Parker said.

"(Over the next five years) the rate of growth may go up or down a little bit, but China will stay a growth story," he said.

New Bruce Springsteen album out March 6 (AP)

NEW YORK ? Bruce Springsteen's new album, "Wrecking Ball," will be out March 6, and he's just released a new single, "We Take Care of Our Own."

Although the song is musically upbeat, it references the current struggles of America with lyrics like, "Where's the promise, from sea to shining sea?"

Other songs on the 11-track album include "Death to My Hometown," "This Depression" and "Easy Money."

The announcement was made Thursday morning on the rocker's website.

Springsteen's manager, Jon Landau, who is also the executive producer of the album, calls the writing on the disc "some of the best of his career."

"Wrecking Ball" is Springsteen's 17th album and the first since the death of E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons last year. Springsteen and the band are due to go on tour this year, but it hasn't been revealed who may step in for Clemons.

Los Angeles, CA (January 17, 2012) While children who suffer from attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) struggle with hyperactive-impulses and have trouble maintaining attention, a recent study found that a structured physical activity program may help to improve their muscular capacities, motor skills, behavior assessments, and the ability to process information. This new exploratory study was released in the recent issue of the Journal of Attention Disorders (published by SAGE).

Authors Claudia Verret, Marie-Claude Guay, Claude Berthiaume, Phillip Gardiner, and Louise Bliveau enrolled ten children in a physical activity program that included a warm-up, aerobic activity, muscular and motor-skill exercises, and a cool-down. The objective of each session was to maintain moderate to high-intensity activity throughout each session as observed by a heart-rate monitor.

"A main finding of this study is that both parents and teachers observed better behavioral scores in the physical activity group," wrote the authors. "This could mean that positive effects of physical activity may occur in different settings of the children's life."

The authors monitored ten children with ADHD who were participating in the physical activity program three times a week and eleven different children with ADHD as part of a control group.

The authors wrote, "Considering the beneficial effect of physical activity participation on some important ADHD-related variables, schools and parents of children with ADHD should look to maximize opportunities for structured group physical activity in their children's life."
