Chelsea rides Torres past Arsenal

Man of the Match: It wasn?t quite his old self, but ?Fernando Torres flashed a little bit of his peak Liverpool form with a creative finish around Laurent Koscielny in the 20th minute, giving Chelsea the lead. But despite the goal and some good play with the ball at his feet, Torres?s main contributions came when Chelsea wasn?t in possession, the Blues? striker proving a pest tracking back to disrupt Arsenal, particularly when the Gunners were hogging the ball in the second half.

NBC Sports: Chelsea wins 2-1 at Arsenal to stay top of EPL

Packaged for takeaway:

  • The teams matched up in near-identical formations: lone strikers up top; four at the back; two deep midfielders. With Ramires and John Obi Mikel set to sit deep in Chelsea?s midfield, Arsenal wasn?t going to enjoy the same advantages they did against Manchester City.
  • Of note, given this was Chelsea?s first big Premier League match of the year: Frank Lampard was on the bench (though he did start against Juventus in Champions League).
  • One of Arsenal?s advantages against City was in possession, but on Saturday, it was Chelsea who controlled most of the play early. The Gunners would even the numbers by half, but over the first 45 minutes, this wasn?t your typical Arsenal match. Ars?ne Wenger?s side wasn?t able to dominate the ball.
  • The home side was dealt a blow early with Abou Diaby had to come off, the midfielder straining his left hip after a 12th minute shot on goal. Wenger brought on?Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, pushing Aaron Ramsey to the middle.
  • It?s the story of Diaby?s career: injuries. The frequency with which he?s hurt in matches has to be a tactical concern. Even if Diaby?s healthy, you can?t start him if you don?t have a substitute to spare.
  • Chelsea broke through fist, with Torres wrapping his right leg around Laurent Koscielny to redirect a Juan Mata restart past Vito Mannone at the left (far) post. For those hoping Torres can somebody (after all this time) find his old self, it was a very encouraging goal, one set up after a touch from the Chelsea striker helped draw the original foul, Thomas Vermaelen caught diving in for a ball perfectly laid off for Eden Hazard.
  • Even after the goal, it took Arsenal some time to get going. Ramsey was slowing down play through the middle, getting caught on the ball, while Oxlade Chamberlain still hadn?t found a rhythm. It was only after the Gunners started pestering Oscar, himself caught on the ball multiple times near the end of the half, that Arsenal came into the game.
  • That was also the same time that Santi Cazorla started popping up everywhere. After being relatively quiet for the first third of the match, Cazorla started coming a little deeper for the ball, making some runs to the right that he wasn?t making before ? generally trying to get more involved.
  • Near the 40th minute, Cazorla?s work helped create a chance down the right, the Spaniard putting a shot out of play off a pass from Carl Jenkinson. Although nothing came from it, the movement exposed two things about Chelsea?s defense that would come into play a few minutes later. First, Ashley Cole was playing very narrow on the left, giving Jenkinson or Oxlade Chamberlain all the room they wanted down the attack?s right. Second, Chelsea?s line was collapsing far too deep ? right to the edge of Petr Cech?s six-yard box.
  • In the 43rd minute, those factors conspired to give Arsenal their equalizer. Jenkinson played a ball wide to Chamberlain, whose cross found Gervinho open near the spot, set up in front of the defense but behind the midfield two. The Ivorian was able to trap, turn and fire the equalizer past Cech.
  • The second half opened with Arsenal in firm control, something that worked against them when a 52nd minute Mikel Arteta giveaway allowed Chelsea to catch the Gunners on the counter. A fifty-fifty ball won by Ramires forced Vermaelen to take down Torres 35 yards for goal, a textbook professional foul (for which he saw yellow).
  • Mata put the ensuing restart at the far post, Mannone frozen when a ball grazed off Koscielny?s left shin and in.
  • From there, Chelsea showed what?s becoming a trademark pragmatism under Roberto Di Matteo. They didn?t threaten Mannone again, but they didn?t need to. Staunchly maintaining their shape while getting good work from Ramires and Torres, Chelsea made their good fortune hold up.
  • In doing so, they also created a match that played to Arsenal?s reputation. No doubt Gooners will insist they outplayed Chelsea, a debatable assertion. Even if you grant it, Saturday?s game adds to a long list of Arsenal results that betray their on-field play. It?s still unclear when they will award trophies for finishing with the most style points.
  • They do award trophies for finishing first, which is where Chelsea stay with three points at the Emirates. The result also alleviated the biggest qualm about Chelsea?s start: A weak schedule. Their first big win of the season may have announced the Blues as title contenders.

Former Dolan coach named Rippowam assistant principal

STAMFORD -- The city school board unanimously approved Chrystal Perry, a former literacy coach at Dolan Middle School, as the new assistant principal at Rippowam Middle School.

Perry returns to the district after spending a little more than a year working in the Norwalk public school system. She was named assistant principal at Norwalk's West Rocks Middle School last school year, but due to budget cuts was switched to assistant principal at two of the district's elementary schools this school year.

Before beginning her Norwalk career, Perry was a literacy coach at Dolan Middle School. She is a graduate of the Stamford public school system, and has also worked at Rippowam and Cloonan Middle School as an English teacher and drama coach during her 16-year career, according to Superintendent Winifred Hamilton.

The assistant principal position at Rippowam was opened up over the summer after Bryan Olkowski left the district to pursue a principal opportunity in Windham public schools. He had been named to the Rippowam assistant principal position in the spring after holding the same post at Scofield Magnet Middle School for several years.

After her approval Thursday night, Perry said she was excited to begin working in Stamford, but still needed time to tie up loose ends in Norwalk after a whirlwind application process was completed on Tuesday. The board has not yet announced when Perry will begin acting in her new role.

Negotiate Step By Step If You're Having Trouble ... - Business Insider

When you're dead set on getting a bargain, play it smart.?

You can't expect the other guy to hand you what you want just because you asked for it. And you've got to have some excellent negotiation strategies in your back pocket just in case.?

In his excellent book, Getting More, Stuart Diamond explains how being incremental is the key to winning almost any showdown.

The idea is that by taking the negotiation step by step, you'll build a foundation in order to get to a solution with more ease. It's the difference between saying, 'Give me what I want!', versus 'Do you want to make a sale?' Diamond explains:?

"If they say at the beginning that they want to reach an agreement, but later start making outrageous demands, you can ask the other party how this dovetails with their indication that they wanted to reach an agreement ... In a negotiation, you should lead people from the familiar to the unfamiliar, step-by-step. The more difficult the situation, the smaller the steps you have to take, and the more steps you'll need."?

It may take some time, and in practice it can come off sarcastic since you're questioning what's happening at every turn. But trust us, it works.

Diamond describes what happened when a guy named Rocky went to pay a traffic ticket at the Department of Motor Vehicles. The building had a sign that said, "No personal checks accepted." Yet the back of the ticket said to mail checks to that building's address. He asked the clerk what to do since a personal check was all he was carrying:?

"'It says on the back of my ticket that I can mail a personal check to the address listed here. Is that right?' ... 'Yes,' the clerk replied. ... 'And where exactly in this building do the checks come that are mailed in?' ... 'Why that desk over there,' said the clerk, gesturing to a desk about six feet away.

"'Could I ask you a question? Is there something special about that six feet? Six feet away, a personal check is okay. Six feet closer, a personal check is not okay .. What if I take my check and put it in an envelope and waft it over you and it lands on the desk over there? Can I pay by check that day?"

Turns out he could?and he did.?

This tact doesn't always work, but if you combine it with framing, or present a problem in a way that's amenable to the other party, you'll get close. Just keep in mind that when you nudge someone step-by-step, you might only wind up with part of what you were after. In that case, take what you can get, advises Diamond. You can always come back the next day.

A?ubalis discussed the Lithuanian economics and security with ...

Edvardas Pocius | The Lithuania Tribune
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Audronius A?ubalis talked with American scholars and business representatives about the Lithuanian government?s achievements to create attractive conditions for foreign investments in Atlanta on 28 September, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.

During the conversation, the Minister mentioned that Lithuania is a perfect place for international companies to expand their businesses to bigger markets such as the EU and the CIS. The Minister emphasized the strategic importance of Lithuania regarding its infrastructure. He also mentioned that international companies can find young specialists among the Lithuanian graduates in the fields of engineering, pharmacy and IT.

Mr. A?ubalis visited the headquarters of the General Electrics, which is one of the largest US investors in foreign countries. The General Electrics takes part in the Visaginas nuclear power plant and other projects in Lithuania.

?I hope we will be able to reach an agreement and the best Lithuanian students will be able to become interns at this global company? said the Minister.

According to the Minister, that would let the Lithuanian students to familiarize themselves with the newest technologies, make contacts with professional and business partners and encourage the American investors to establish their businesses in Lithuania.

The Minister also met experts on international politics and the European politics in the Georgia Institute of Technology and noted that Lithuania is strategically committed to continue its cooperation with the US in the fields of security, energy and economic policies as well as democracy promotion.

?The US has always been a very important Lithuania?s partner. We appreciate the role of the US in the region of the Baltic Sea where the diversity of military arsenal and technologies is increasing against our will? said the Minister with regard to the recent military exercise in Kaliningrad.

The Minister also noted that Lithuania will hold the EU presidency in the second part of 2013 and is going to promote more active discussions on energy security, the EU neighbourhood and financial stability and stress the need of greater trade relations between the EU and the US.

?Both the US and the EU are the most important Western democracies which, in the economically tough times, could sign a free trade agreement. That would increase international trade and employability? said Mr. A?ubalis.

Robert Stromberg Plans a Safari

Robert Stromberg Directing 'Safari'

In the world of visual effects and design, Robert Stromberg is an industry leader. The veteran production designer has worked on a whole host of blockbuster films and has even won two Academy Awards for Art Direction on Avatar and Alice in Wonderland.

Now, Stromberg is making his transition into the director?s chair with Disney?s much-anticipated live-action Sleeping Beauty film Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie as the titular sorceress. But that?s not the only project that Stromberg has in the works.

According to a new report from Variety, Stromberg has committed to direct a new film called Safari, which is being described as ?a large-scale adventure pic in the vein of Jurassic Park and Avatar.? The film is being developed by Stromberg?s new company, Hydra.

Hydra (named for the mythical three-headed monster) is comprised of Stromberg, production designer Dylan Cole, and storyboard artist Mark Moretti. With this new enterprise, these three veterans hope to give filmmakers an alternative to studio development.

Angelina Jolie in Maleficent

Angelina Jolie in Robert Stromberg?s ?Maleficent?

It works like this: Hydra has partnered with the pre-vis company Third Floor (pre-vis is an abbreviation for previsualization, which can span anything from traditional storyboards and concept art to detailed computer animation). According to Variety, by combining their individual talents with Third Floor?s pre-vis experience, Hydra will help filmmakers get their projects off the ground.

Quoting the article:

Hydra?s process enables simultaneous story and visual development, blending traditional screenwriting with high-end concept design, storyboarding and previsualization. While several like-minded companies in the videogame and book worlds are taking the transmedia approach, Hydra believes it?s the only company coming from a pre-vis background.

In addition to Safari, Hydra is developing an adaptation of Dylan Cole?s children?s book, The Otherworldly Adventures of Tyler Washburn. As these projects move forward in development, Hydra plans to pitch them to studio partners for additional financing and development.

Keep your eye on main page for more news on Robert Stromberg?s?Safari. His directorial debut,?Maleficent, is expected to hit theaters March 14th, 2014.

Mauritius' Lux Resorts pretax hurt by financing costs

PORT LOUIS (Reuters) - Mauritius hotels group Lux Island Resorts posted a drop in pretax profit for the year ended June to 14.26 million rupees from 45.95 million a year before, reflecting higher finance costs, it said on Friday.

The luxury hotel group, which has properties in the Maldives and Reunion islands as well as on the Indian Ocean island itself, said occupancy rates rose by 1 percentage point to 72 percent.

Revenue increased to 3.71 billion rupees from 3.10 billion and earnings per share climbed to 0.24 rupees from 0.07, the company said in a statement.

"With regard to the current low season, we are experiencing negative growth, however management has contained costs and maximised efficiencies and we expect earnings ... to approximate that of last year," Lux said in a statement.

The results were issued after the market closed. Shares of the firm had closed the session unchanged at 15 rupees.

DNP Scoot aims to be Zipcar of electric scooters, launches in SF

Aiming to be the Zipcar of electric scooters, Scoot Networks has officially launched in San Francisco after months of beta testing. Ideal for areas with problematic parking, the Chinese-made scooters are 100 percent electric with a 20Ah SLA battery each, and there's even a dock built into the dash to charge most Android or iPhone models. With a screaming top speed of 30 miles per hour, they're obviously meant for short trips and not for the highway. It costs $10 to sign up, $5 per month, then $5 per hour. You can also get a $10 per day deal or a $19 per month option that includes three workdays or overnights. Even though you don't need a motorcycle license to rent one, the company does offer tutorials to get newbies comfortable with the vehicles. If you do have a license, you can opt for the $185 a month plan that lets you get your own personal scooter. A potential issue is that the battery on the electric scooter only lasts around 20 to 30 miles, but San Francisco might have enough EV-friendly parking spots to make that less of a problem. You can watch the company's promo video after the break.

Male DNA commonly found in women?s brains, likely from prior pregnancy with a male fetus

ScienceDaily (Sep. 26, 2012) ? Male DNA is commonly found in the brains of women, most likely derived from prior pregnancy with a male fetus, according to first-of-its-kind research conducted at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. While the medical implications of male DNA and male cells in the brain are unknown, studies of other kinds of microchimerism -- the harboring of genetic material and cells that were exchanged between fetus and mother during pregnancy -- have linked the phenomenon to autoimmune diseases and cancer, sometimes for better and other times for worse.

The study findings are published Sept. 26 in PLOS ONE. Lead author William F. N. Chan, Ph.D., in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Alberta, conducted the research while working in the Hutchinson Center laboratory of J. Lee Nelson, M.D., a member of the Center's Clinical Research Division and a leading international authority on microchimerism. Nelson is senior author on the paper.

Chan said the study is the first description of male microchimerism in the female human brain. The findings support the likelihood that fetal cells frequently cross the human blood-brain barrier and that microchimerism in the brain is relatively common. Until this study, it was not known whether these cells could cross the barrier in humans. For this research, scientists examined brain autopsy specimens from 59 women who had died between the ages of 32 and 101. Male microchimerism was detected in 63 percent of subjects, was distributed in multiple brain regions and was potentially persistent throughout the human lifespan; the oldest female in whom male fetal DNA was detected in the brain was 94.

Twenty six of the women had no neurological disease and 33 had Alzheimer's disease. The brains of women with Alzheimer's had a somewhat lower prevalence of male microchimerism, which appeared in lower concentrations in regions of the brain most affected by the disease. However, the authors noted that the small number of subjects and largely unknown pregnancy history of the women means a link between Alzheimer's disease and level of male cells of fetal origin cannot be established.

The study also does not provide an association between male microchimerism in the female brain and relative health versus disease. "Currently, the biological significance of harboring male DNA and male cells in the human brain requires further investigation," Chan said.

However, other Hutchinson Center studies of male microchimerism in women have found it to impact a woman's risk of developing some types of cancer and autoimmune disease. In some conditions, such as breast cancer, cells of fetal origin are thought to confer protection; in others, such as colon cancer, they have been associated with increased risk. Hutchinson Center studies also have linked lower risk of rheumatoid arthritis to women who previously had given birth at least once as compared to nulliparous women. Grants from the National Institutes of Health and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research funded the study, which also involved researchers from the Department of Pathology and Division of Rheumatology at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Open Season on Salt: What the Science on Hypertension Really Shows

Shedding pounds may be a better way to promote cardiovascular health than avoiding the saltshaker

salt, hypertension, salami Image: Flickr/reallyboring

The latest news reports about salt are enough to make a parent ponder a household ban on pizza and cold cuts. A study published last week in Pediatrics found that children eat, on average, 3.4 grams of sodium daily?more than twice the amount recommended for adults by the Institute of Medicine (IOM). News outlets, including the Associated Press and USA Today, explained that, according to the study, the quarter of American kids who eat the most sodium are twice to three times as likely to develop high blood pressure as the quarter who eat the least. The take-home message from these stories is clear: kids need to cut down on salt or they will suffer serious health consequences.

It's a compelling argument. Problem is, it may be wrong.

The study that these articles reference, which was published by researchers at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), did not actually find a statistically significant association between salt intake and blood pressure in kids. And the doubling or tripling of risk described by some outlets isn't an accurate portrayal of the findings either. As lead author Quanhe Yang explained to Scientific American in an interview, high salt intake doubles the odds that kids have hypertension or pre-hypertension (and again, this doubling is not statistically significant), but odds and risk are two very different things. "I am not sure the best way to convert this odds ratio into a risk ratio," Yang says, but if he had to guess, the risk would probably be lower than the odds.

Yang's study does provide compelling insights. It shows that among obese or overweight children, increased salt intake is linked to higher blood pressure, an association that is statistically significant. Scientists have long known that obesity increases hypertension risk in adults and kids, but the CDC's study suggests that being overweight might also make kids more sensitive to salt's blood-pressure-boosting effect.

Still, the kids' blood pressure changes were not huge: The overweight children who ate the most sodium?an average of about 4.6 grams per day?had an average systolic blood pressure (the top number in the blood pressure ratio) of 112.8 millimeters of mercury (mmHg), whereas those who consumed the least?an average of 2.3 grams of sodium?had an average systolic pressure of 109 mmHg. (The two groups? average diastolic pressures, the bottom number in the ratio, were the same.) In other words, among overweight and obese kids, a doubling of sodium intake was associated with a 3 percent increase in systolic blood pressure. This difference may not be clinically significant for individuals, because "systolic blood pressure changes from minute to minute" by as much as 5 mmHg, says Michael Alderman, a professor emeritus at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and editor in chief of the American Journal of Hypertension.

An average systolic blood-pressure difference of 3 percent could, however, have consequences for overall public health. But Yang says that it's impossible to tell from his study whether eating more salt actually causes blood pressure to rise. "This is a cross-sectional study; we cannot say anything about causality," he explains. Although he and his colleagues tried to control for potentially confounding variables, it's possible that kids who eat more salt also have other habits that predispose them to high blood pressure. (For instance, research suggests that children who eat lots of salt also drink lots of soft drinks, which are associated with blood pressure increases, too.) Indeed, research doesn't always support the notion that salt causes high blood pressure: A large, multicenter study known as INTERSALT compared urinary sodium levels?an accurate indicator of prior sodium consumption?with hypertension in more than 10,000 people in 1988 and found no statistically significant association between them. In fact, the population that ate the most sodium had a lower median blood pressure than the population that ate the least.

Paul Cargnello's passion for fatherhood

?

Paul Cargnello, right, got help from his brother, Chris, on his latest album, Papa Paul, which was recorded while Cargnello was caring for his then infant son.

Photograph by: Dave Sidaway , THE GAZETTE

MONTREAL - One is the loneliest number, or so the song goes, but for Montreal singer/songwriter Paul Cargnello ? who has just released his latest solo album, Papa Paul, on independent hip-hop label Silence d?Or ? it may also be the luckiest.

?Heh-heh, I?m the one non-hip-hop artist on the entire label,? he says, smiling broadly from a couch in his N.D.G. home. For Cargnello, whose writing habitually tracks wide paths through blues-rock and reggae, with regular forays into agit-folk and soul, it?s an incongruity in appearances only, and may well have the makings of a blessing.

?Hip-hop labels are used to, for one thing, not selling records and having to work their way around this industry and survive despite the fact they?re never the main focus. It?s a little bit like my career,? he laughs.

?I think my sensibility and my approach to music has always been more hip-hop and punk than anything else. Maybe not sound-wise. People have always called me a punk rocker, yet I don?t think that I display much in the way of punk musically. I think I rip off The Clash, but I don?t know about punk, per se.?

There are few who would question Cargnello?s punk-rock credentials, recent father and homeowner that he is notwithstanding. Former frontman for self-described ?rock reggae revolutionaries? The Vendettas during the mid-?90s, the now 33-year-old career musician and committed socialist has never strayed from the core anti-conformist, activist impulses that power punk rock the ideology, and not the haircut.

?I?ve never worried about selling out,? Cargnello says, ?but I?ve always been afraid of the accusations of selling out. The second you have a house and you?re making a little money off what you?re doing and you have a kid and a career, you start thinking that it?s very possible that you have sold out.

?But honestly, you know when people say that if you?re not a socialist when you?re young then you have no heart, and if you?re not a conservative when you?re old you?ve got no head? Well, it?s the exact opposite for me. My political values have not changed ? I?m still very, very implicated in certain causes. And especially having a kid, it gives you one more really, really big reason to take things very seriously and to care about what?s happening for the next generation. Now when I vote, I vote with a vengeance.?

Indeed, Cargnello?s passion for fatherhood ? all the songs on Papa Paul were recorded while Cargnello was a stay-at-home dad, caring for his then infant son Declan, an experience he claims as a great source of inspiration ? is at the creative heart of the 13-track album. That being said, he denies having any apprehension that Papa Paul might be perceived as some kind of sticky daddy-centric ode to the joys of parenthood.

?No, I never had that concern because I think the proof is in this recording, and that just because we get older and have kids doesn?t mean we have to become lame. And this isn?t a lame record.?

Sharon, Lois and Bram it ain?t.

?No,? he says emphatically, ?and I want everybody to understand that, because when it came out people were like: ?Is this going to be for your kid? That?s kind of cheesy.? And it?s not.

?I decided I was going to call it Papa because that?s what I am now. That?s what?s changed. I think in the old days I would have called myself an activist first or a musician or whatever. But now I?m a father first, and before all of the things you can list under ?Paul Cargnello,? I?m a father. And that?s all I?m saying with this.?

Bruising blues tunes, danceable diatribes, whimsical vignettes and heavy-hearted acoustic compositions all reside amicably side-by-side on the, again, predominantly French-language Papa Paul.

It?s Cargnello?s ninth solo release since his 2002 debut, Lightweight Romeo, and the follow-up to 2010?s Les courses des loups.

Profiting from a light production touch, Papa Paul breathes easily. It?s refreshingly, stylistically freewheeling, from the dirty shredded blues of the album-opening All My Heroes, to the horn-hung soul pop of first single L?Effet que tu me fais, to the relaxed reggae bounce of Politicien. And in part because the final recording is founded on first takes, it wears its warts openly and unapologetically.

?Well, it?s an album of demos first of all,? Cargnello says chuckling, ?And the thing is, a lot of bands, when they?re doing records, will tell you that the demos were better. And it?s true ? the demos are always better. There?s an energy the first time you perform something, and there?s always some crappy sound in the background ? Man, on (the song) Ayiti kimb? the phone is ringing through the whole thing. Someone was trying to call me non-stop, and I couldn?t get it out, so I decided to leave it because these are the sounds of my house and these are what make recordings beautiful.?

Cargnello recorded and played all instruments on Papa Paul save for keyboards (courtesy of long-serving co-conspirator Sandy Belfort) and horns, which are a key feature of the release.

?My brother Chris, who?s a graduate of the McGill jazz program, did all the horn arrangements,? Cargnello explains.

?Chris is a musical genius ? it?s disturbing working with him because he can do anything. But when he originally sent me the demos of his tracks, he sent me these little keyboard parts that he wrote with these stupid Casio-sounding, piece-of-s**t horn tones, and I was like: ?I don?t know ? this is not good, this sounds really bad,? and he was like, ?No! Trust me!? And I said, ?Okay, I?ll trust you, but this really sounds bad.? And then we got the horn guys in and, oh, what a difference.?

Cargnello has always been unusually adept at wringing worthy results from an imperfect process, in large part because he doesn?t strive for musical perfection as a matter of principle, but also because he finds perfection, in a word, boring.

?Exactly,? he says. ?I?m in no way a perfectionist ? perfectionism is a form of narcissism because you actually think you can do something perfectly. And if you think that, you?re an idiot. Even The Beatles would probably look at The White Album and say: ?What a piece of s**t Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da is,? or whatever. Everyone looks at their own albums saying: ?Oh my God, what did I do??

?Records are like photographs of your bad haircuts from your high school years.?

Papa Paul is on sale now. Paul Cargnello, with Les Tireux d?Roches, Guillaume Arsenault, Francis d?Octobre and more, performs Oct. 5 at Cabaret du Mile-End, 5240 Parc Ave. For more information visit www.lemileend.org.

How Tuning into Your Pet Helps Boost Your Psychic Ability - Michele ...

Michele Knight reader and resident animal communicator Helen shows how we can boost our psychic ability by learning how to communicate with our animals.

Aside from the obvious noises ? your cat purrs when happy, your dog barks with excitement or to tell you someone is approaching, your horse whinnies with pleasure when he sees you ? animals primarily use non-verbal signals to communicate. Learning how to ?tune in? and interpret what our animal soul companions are telling us therefore helps us when it comes to developing our own intuition and reading the non-verbal signals people give out ? as well as of course, opening up our relationship to our beloved pets. So, how can we learn to do this?

Animals express a full range of emotions just like we do. If you have a animal soul companion or have simply spent enough time around animals you will have at one time or another seen your pet exhibit everything from jealousy to joy. When we understand this we can begin to relate to our animals on the emotional level which transcends language. Have you ever said ?My pet understands everything I say?? Chances are they do. Many animals are able to see our auras and also being masters at non-verbal communication, they are able to pick up the emotional context behind our words. So, when we are setting out on a journey to start to open up communication with our pet it is important to understand that our pets respond to this ? this also means they understand harsh or angry words which they will interpret as rejection or criticism and close down as a result. So, even if you feel your pet has misbehaved, always keep a firm but gentle tone.

The first step to understanding what your pet is saying is simply to spend more time with it. Do you spend as much time with your animal as you should? Do you walk your dog regularly but are always in a hurry? Do you stroke your cat but aside from that never spend much time observing her? Do you dash to the stable to turn out your horse and then just ride him at weekends? The first step to building your relationship with your animal is to spend time with it just like you would with any other soul connection. If your animal fits on your lap and likes it, sit with it and stroke and massage it. If you have a larger animal sit with it on the floor. Run your hands over it talking to it and give it a massage. The same goes if you have a horse. Don?t just be with your horse when you are riding it. Spend time with it in the stable and the paddock and yes, horses love massages! As you do this you will notice more and more ways in which your animal communicates and what is more when you touch and massage your animal you will begin to receive emotional and psychic impressions from them. You may discover things about your animal?s past you didn?t know which can offer clues to why your pet behaves in a certain way allowing you to help them clear emotional blockages. Very often we attract animals who have similar emotional issues to us and this offers an opportunity for joint soul healing.

As you become more observant about what your animal is telling you, you will be able to apply this knowledge to understanding the same signals from people ? giving your intuitive abilities a real boost.

Remember, any sudden behaviour changes in your pet require a professional opinion so always consult your vet in these situations.

Opening up non-verbal channels of communication with our pets enhances our relationship with them and brings about greater connectedness and wellbeing for us. So ? get talking to the animals ? you?ll be surprised at what they have to say.

Make a game on your site. Customers love to play free games online, and that can keep people coming back for more after they play once. The games you offer on your site should be related to your industry. For instance, if you?re selling products for hair, you could make a game that involves styling hair with your products.

Be certain that the format of your website provides easily found links. This will give the people interested in you, more ease when looking through your website. All of your information will not be hidden away in obscure links that no one can seem to find.

TIP! Be certain to follow up with all clients. Ask them to do a survey or provide a review about their experience with you.

Provide your frequent customers or visitors with a reward of some kind for making purchases from your site. When customers get something extra for making a purchase or for visiting your website, they will be encouraged to be loyal to your product. People will talk to their friends about the promotional offers and gift cards you have been sending them.

By placing surveys and polls throughout your website, you can solicit feedback from site users. Acknowledging and implementing your users? ideas helps to build a relationship with your audience.

Use the signature line in forums and email to promote your business. If you use a forum then you should put your link in the signature area. All emails should have your website?s address in your signature. That way, you will be able to generate awareness of your site among your entire group of contacts and also potentially boost your search engine rank. Create intrigue with interesting text so the readers will feel the need to click your link.

TIP! Before you focus on building your web business, you first need to focus on the particular niche you?ll be catering to. You cannot sell items to people unless you know what it is that they want.

The database that utilizes customer relationship management software ensures that your Internet marketing strategies are more successful. You can track current and previous customers, and see what they have bought. You can use this to customize each communication with the customer that shows only things that they might be interested which helps them to purchase additional items.

Keep your content new and fresh to improve its quality. Visitors who arrive at a site and find that the latest information available was posted months or even years ago are going to draw the wrong conclusions about your business?s current state of affairs. A website that works well will more likely to be visited.

TIP! The ads you use should be full of emotional descriptions. This helps you concentrate on building brand recognition.

If you want to draw in traffic for your site, you should think about circulating a press release. Ensure that your press release is accurate and target the information to a specific audience. The is a good way to get your name out there.

Security is extremely important in a payment system. Services such as Paypal allow you to use a payment system on your site that offers safe monetary transactions. All accounts should be password protected to ensure safety.

You could bring more traffic to your site by offering a free service. Offering something free will give folks incentive to visit your site. Many business accomplish this by providing a free calculation tool relevant to the product for sale.

TIP! If you know what kind of lingo people use when talking about the brand you are selling you can use it in your ads. Using terms that your customers are already comfortable with will allow you to reach them on a more familiar level.

A 500 error page that is user friendly is a helpful tool to have. This happens when a code stops working for you. If you have an error page that is generic, it wil tell visitors that the connection has simply timed out. Having a more specific message shows the customer that you are trying to give them as much information as possible while solving the issue with the website.

Now that you?ve come to the end of this article, you can see the need to effectively employ Internet marketing within your own business. With the right amount of dedication, you will improve customer relations, increase sales and become well-known in the Internet business world

Stacy Lewis takes 3rd-round lead in Alabama

PRATTVILLE, Ala. (AP) ? Third-ranked Stacy Lewis shot a 7-under 65 on Saturday to take a two-stroke lead in the Navistar LPGA Classic, while second-round leader Lexi Thompson fell five shots behind.

Lewis, a two-time winner this season, had a 15-under 201 total on The Senator course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Capitol Hill complex. She birdied four of the first five holes in her bogey-free round.

The 17-year-old Thompson had a 74 to drop into a tie for sixth at 10 under. Thompson won the event last year at 16 to become the youngest champion in LPGA Tour history, a mark broken last month by 15-year-old amateur Lydia Ko in the Canadian Women's Open.

Angela Stanford was second after a 68. Lizette Salas with third at 12 under after a 70, and Haeji Kang and Mi Jung Hur followed at 11 under. Kang shot a 67, and Hur had a 72. Sarah Jane Smith and Hee Young Park joined Thompson at 10 under. Smith had a 68, and Park shot 72.

Lewis is trying to complete an Alabama sweep after beating Thompson by a stroke in the Mobile Bay LPA Classic in late April. The former Arkansas star also won the ShopRite LPGA Classic in June in New Jersey.

Thompson opened with a career-best 63 on Thursday to match the tournament record, and followed with a 69 on Friday. She made a double bogey on the par-4 12th Saturday, and offset two birdies with two bogeys.

Top-ranked Yani Tseng was 5 under after a 70.

Angry Quarterbacks Of Angry Teams: Your Sunday Night Football Viewing Guide [NFL Viewing Guide]

Angry Quarterbacks Of Angry Teams: Your Sunday Night Football Viewing GuideTom Brady is Angry. Joe Flacco is perturbed. The Patriots are looking to bounce back from a loss to the Skelton-less Arizona Cardinals and the Ravens think they got jobbed against the Philadelphia Eagles. You know they are looking to prove a point, he says in simultaneously worthless and authoritative color guy speak. Who is they? What is that point? No idea, but it's also a REMATCH!! Talk about all of that craziness in our open thread, which is right here.

New England at Baltimore (NBC): Coming into this weekend, the entire AFC East was deadlocked at 1-1. Now The Jets and Bills are tied at 2-1 and the Dolphins are an embarrassing 1-3. Will the Patriots slip down to a tie with the lowly Dolphins, or will they remain the class of the AFC East?

Meanwhile, the elite quarterback debate du juor has found it's way to Joe Flacco and this is one of those "test" or "gut check" games for him. You see, while Joe Flacco is out on the field throwing the football, living legend Tom Brady will also be down on field level, likely sitting down with an offensive coach looking at aerial shots of defensive formations and shit. He might also stand up and look at stuff as it happens on the field. So, the butterflies will be going for Flacco.

Ax-wielding man kills 3 kids, wounds 13 in China

?

By Ed Flanagan, NBC News Beijing

An ax-wielding man burst into a day care center in China and attacked the children, killing three and wounding another 13 before police subdued him.

The incident took place Friday in China?s southern province of Guangxi.

Little else is known about the incident, which was first reported in China?s official state news agency, Xinhua. The children, aged between 6 and 12, were reportedly sitting down for lunch at a day care center in a local Pingan county residential compound when the man entered and began swinging at them with an ax.

Wounded children ? some severely ? were rushed to local area hospitals. Local police who arrived at the scene were able to disarm the man and arrest him.

Police were still investigating the motivation behind the attack.

Violent incidents against children are not rare in mainland China. In the past two years, a string of attacks at schools and day care centers involving lone attackers rattled the country, culminating with a series of three consecutive school attacks that took place over a three-day period in 2010.

In one of the incidents, Xu Yuyuan, 47, entered a Jiangsu province school in April 2010 and stabbed 29 children and three teachers. Xu told a court the next month that he wanted to ?vent his rage against society,? and that he was angry after a series of public humiliations and unsuccessful business ventures.

Determined to show that authorities were getting tough on crime against children, the court sentenced Xu to death after a half-day trial.

At the time, officials and social commentators argued that the incidents were isolated and committed by mentally unstable persons or those with extreme grievances against the government.

Many around the country, however, argued the attacks underscored both increasing societal pressures on Chinese people and an urgent need for China to overhaul how it approaches mental health evaluation and treatment.

Earlier this year, Chinese legislatures had begun discussion on much needed mental health law reforms.

Endeavour flies by Golden Gate Bridge, other sites

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? Space shuttle Endeavour crisscrossed California Friday in a last aerial hurrah before retiring to a Los Angeles museum.

Hitching a ride on top of a jumbo jet, the pair departed Edwards Air Force Base, 100 miles north of Los Angeles, circling the high desert that gave birth to the shuttle fleet before heading to Northern California.

Thousands of spectators jammed rooftop buildings and streets in Sacramento, cheering as Endeavour made two loops around the state Capitol. A crowd of schoolchildren squealed in delight during the second flyover.

Matthew Montgomery took a break from his work as a legislative aide and brought his 2-year-old son, Tavion, to see Endeavour airborne.

"I was going to leave him in daycare but thought this is a once-in-a-lifetime deal," said Montgomery, whose aunt was an engineer on the early Apollo missions.

After circling Sacramento, Endeavour veered toward the San Francisco Bay area, swooping over the Golden Gate Bridge as throngs snapped pictures on their cellphones and shared on social media sites.

Next up: Los Angeles-area landmarks including the Santa Monica Pier, Hollywood Sign and Disneyland.

At the Griffith Observatory, overlooking the Hollywood Sign, a crowd of people ? many dressed in shorts and flip-flops with kids in tow ? camped out on beach chairs and blankets on the lush lawns, waiting for a flyover later in Endeavour's journey.

The nearly 5-hour air show will culminate with an afternoon landing at the Los Angeles International Airport for an arrival ceremony ? then, in a few weeks, a slow-speed journey across town through neighborhoods to its final museum home.

Since Endeavour will buzz by some of the Golden State's most iconic sights, law enforcement and transportation authorities warned motorists not to "gawk and drive."

"We want people to take in this majestic show," Los Angeles police Cmdr. Scott Kroeber said earlier this week. "But if you're driving, please drive and don't try to take in the show simultaneously."

Extra officers will be on duty along the freeways near the airport to make sure traffic flows smoothly as the shuttle zooms overhead.

Endeavour returned to its birthplace Thursday after an emotional cross-country ferry flight that made a special flyover of Tucson, Ariz., to honor its last commander, Mark Kelly, and his wife, former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

Giffords, who is recovering from a gunshot wound to the head, was "hooting and hollering" as Endeavour looped around her hometown, according to her former aide C.J. Karamargin.

NASA's shuttle fleet, which retired last year after three decades of flight, was assembled in Palmdale near Edwards Air Force Base. The military outpost 100 miles north of Los Angeles served as the original shuttle landing strip and remained a backup site in case of stormy weather at Cape Canaveral, Fla.

"We're so excited to be welcoming Endeavour home in grand style with these flyovers," Jeffrey Rudolph, president of the California Science Center, said earlier this week.

The youngest shuttle, Endeavour replaced Challenger, which blew up during liftoff in 1986. NASA lost another shuttle, Columbia, in 2003 when it disintegrated during re-entry. Fourteen astronauts were killed.

During 25 missions, Endeavour spent 299 days in space and orbited Earth nearly 4,700 times, racking up 123 million miles.

On its maiden flight in 1992, a trio of spacewalking astronauts grabbed a stranded communications satellite in for repair. It also flew the first repair mission to the Hubble Space Telescope to fix a faulty mirror. But most of its flights ferried cargo and equipment to the International Space Station, which is near completion.

Under White House orders to explore beyond low-Earth orbit, NASA is hitching rides on Russian rockets to the orbiting laboratory until private companies can provide regular service.

Endeavour is the second of three remaining shuttles to head to its retirement home. In April, Discovery arrived at the Smithsonian Institution's hangar in Virginia. Atlantis, which closed out the shuttle program, will stay in Florida where it will be towed a short distance to the Kennedy Space Center's visitor center in the fall.

Endeavour will remain at an airport hangar for several weeks as crews ready the shuttle for its own road trip. Unlike Atlantis, it will creep through city streets to the California Science Center near downtown.

Some 400 trees will be cleared along the 12-mile route to make room, a move that has riled some residents in affected neighborhoods. Museum officials have pledged to replant double the number of chopped trees.
