What every parent should know about Montessori education

A young child is full of potential ? they could become a famous artist, a successful entrepreneur, a doctor, a lawyer or an influential politician. Every child can be exceptional, but much of their potential will only be realized if they also have an exceptional education.

There is nothing wrong with the public school system, but children deserve the exceptional education that is provided by a Montessori setting, starting at a young age. Here are a few things every parent should know about Montessori education methods, which can start much earlier than a public school education.

Montessori schooling starts at a much younger age than public schooling. Parents can enroll their children in programs during their very early development, which provides a foundation for learning right from the beginning.

Along with early childhood education in a Montessori centre, the home can be designed to support constant learning and development using Montessori methods. There are a number of techniques that involve the layout of a child?s room, a gradual expansion of their environment and how to select the items they play and learn with.

Whether you decide to include Montessori techniques in your home or enroll your child in a Montessori early education program, there are certain standards you should expect from a Montessori centre. Because any school can legally call itself a Montessori school, you should be sure to look for accreditation from both national and international organizations. Three excellent indicators of a good Montessori school could include membership in the American Montessori Society, the Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators or the International Montessori Society. Membership in these organizations means the staff and administrators of a school are trained experts in education and are held to the highest standards.

If you are concerned about your child?s education or are expecting a child that you want to start learning right from birth, give the Pickering Montessori Learning Centre a call at 905-509-1722 or visit their website at www.mlcp.ca to learn more about what they can do for you and your family.
